Inside Sales Representative
The interviewer kept cutting me off when I answered. He asked me why I left the first company prior to my last one and said it was too short a tenure when the following company I left was even 2 months less of a tenure than the first. He kept digging if I had undergone restructuring of the company. Firstly, why would any employee with an NDA even answer that, secondly why even ask that ON A FIRST PHONE INTERVIEW. He also could wrap his head around the number I gave for a quota/goal, ON A FIRST PHONE/SCREENING INTERVIEW. I'm sure there is a background check and the set of questions were not surprising but his responses to my responses sure was. It was unprofessional and I felt like I wasn't going to be believed anyway and he wasted both our time.
- Can you tell me what Nutanix means to you?
- What was your quota?
- Why did you leave your previous employer?
Sales
This is a typical IT interview process, starting with a 'good cop,' then a 'middle cop,' and finally a 'bad cop.' There weren't really any trick questions; it felt more like a 'would you fit the culture' kind of vibe. There was a short technology discussion, and it's a MUST that you're aware of market conditions and know people in the market (like Partners, Clients, and Competition). We'll also chat about your background, skill set, and sales process, and I'll ask you to tell me about a win, a loss, and a turnaround campaign. Standard Sales questions, really.
- What impact has the public cloud had on the market, and how do you see it influencing the sales ecosystem moving forward?
- Can you describe the effect of the public cloud on the market and its future impact on the sales ecosystem?
Sales
They want to see how you handle the situation, putting you under pressure. Questions are test-like, like solving a problem, drawing a diagram, or presenting on a topic. Pure stress interviews aren't common, but some stress questions may be asked in other types. If you don't know the answer to a technical question, don't panic. Think through it out loud so your interviewer can hear you, and admit that you do not know the answer, but explain what resources you would use to find the answer (a colleague, the Internet, a book). Sometimes, employers are more interested in watching how you handle stress and your resourcefulness than in seeing you answer the problem correctly.
- Can you tell me what the company does?
- What products or services are provided by the company?
- What industry is this company in?
