Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at NRG Global (IL).
Event Marketing Assistant
The first interview was with the president, who was vague about the role. It seems like everyone enters this BMTP program regardless of the job they applied for. The second interview was with a manager who explained the company structure. She was nice, but it felt like a pyramid scheme. When I asked about the actual analytics job I applied for, the conversation was steered away, and the president seemed annoyed when I asked these questions.
- What makes you stand out?
- Have you ever managed a team?
- How do you handle rejection?
Event Marketing Assistant
I arrived a bit early and waited at the front desk. The admin was super nice, so the wait didn't feel long. The interview lasted about 25 minutes, and the company Manager explained a lot about the company, which was helpful since my own research didn't make the big picture clear. The interview went really well overall. He seemed genuinely interested in what I was looking for and my goals. They invited me for a second round interview that was about 4-5 hours long. It was great because they showed me the entry level work and I learned more about the company. They also gave me some questions to answer to see if I was a good fit. Those 4-5 hours flew by so fast I didn't even notice the time. It was a great experience.
- What are your professional and personal goals?
- Can you outline three ways an employee gets paid from a manager's perspective, along with three pros and three cons?
- What are three positive and three negative aspects related to employee compensation from a management standpoint?
Marketing Assistant
I got to the Logan Square office 10 minutes before my interview with the President. The interview started 5 minutes late, which was fine. It was a quick 15-minute chat about the company and how it's organized. Since I wasn't totally clear on the job duties, I asked the president a bunch of questions, and he was really open and helpful. He called me later that day for a second interview the next day. When I arrived in the morning, the office was busy and seemed pretty modern and relaxed. I then went to an event about 30 minutes away with the assistant manager. At the event, they explained the event structure and how they work, and I had to do some 'tests' throughout the day. It was exciting because everyone seemed to be having a good time and the event was well-organized. At the end of the day, I had a third interview with the president. This was this week, and I'm still waiting to hear back, but I'm hopeful.
- How would you approach maintaining a competitive edge in the expanding direct marketing sector?
