First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at npower.
Analyst
Applied online, then had a numerical reasoning test before the interview. The interview was standard, lasted 1 hour, and had 2 people on the panel. They said I'd hear back in 1-2 weeks but after 3 weeks I had to chase HR. They said they'd get back to me but I heard nothing. I'd heard bad things about Npower before, but I was really interested in the role so I applied and did the assessments and interview anyway. Eventually, 5.5 weeks after the interview, I got an email saying I was unsuccessful. Luckily, I'd already been offered a better job. I think it's poor they don't get back to you properly considering the time you spend applying. Well done Npower, you were shocking as an energy provider and as an employer!

Risk Analyst
I applied online and after about a week, HR contacted me. They invited me for a panel interview that was scheduled for a week later. On the day of the interview, I had to wait an extra 30 minutes past my appointment time. However, both interviewers apologized for the delay and were very friendly. The company contacted me again the following week after the interview. I was not offered the position because I was considered overqualified for the role.

Process Improvement Manager
I submitted my application through the company website and was contacted by an internal recruiter from Npower within about a week. I had a brief, informal 15-minute phone chat with a very approachable person who went over the job specifics and discussed my background. Later, I was invited to a 7-hour assessment center held at a nice hotel in Leeds. The day began with a group discussion, followed by a practical, job-related exercise. After that, there was a quick 10-minute interview and a presentation. I heard back with a job offer four working days after completing the assessment.
- In 10 minutes, please explain your suitability for this position.
Graduate Scheme
I applied for the 2012 graduate scheme and two weeks later I got an email about a phone interview. I booked a time on their site and got the call exactly then. The interviewer was from the recruitment team, and he took notes to send to the recruiting manager. There were 8 questions in total, split into two parts. The first part was about why I chose Npower, engineering, and the energy sector, plus the skills needed for the role. The second part was competency-based questions on focus, driving performance and timelines, organizational skills, and sharing ideas. I felt relaxed, and the interviewer was polite and friendly.
