The interview process was a solid Zoom call, I don't have any real complaints. They were very open when I asked questions, but make sure you're ready to ask the 'right' questions. I felt like some important info was only shared after I happened to ask a good question. For example, there are two contract types: individual contractor and employee. Each has pros and cons. Contractor: set your own schedule, offer your own classes, paid per class, find your own housing, but you can earn more than an employee if you work more. You only need to work minimum hours for the visa, but can work way more. Employee: hours are assigned, housing is assigned, but less freedom with days off, and no chance to have a pet... (getting a pet to Japan takes over 6 months, so do this first if you want to bring one). Also, remember that these two contracts mean different tax filing in the US.

You get an invite for an online interview. They ask you about yourself and why you want to teach in Japan. After that, they say they'll give you feedback in two weeks. My interview was 15 minutes. If they don't reach out after two weeks, it means you didn't get the job. I think it's unfair because you deserve some feedback, and during the interview, they talk like you already got the job, which can get you excited, but they won't even tell you that you didn't pass.

Applied through Gaijinpot in August and got an e-mail from nova in early October asking if I would like an interview. I arranged an interview via skype for the following week. The interview - I was asked what I knew about Nova. - They told me some more about Nova and about the position. - They asked me why I wanted to move to Japan. - They asked me if I prefer teaching adults or children. - We role-played an adult 1-1 lesson. The interviewer pretended to be a student and asked what a few words from my CV mean. - We role-played a low-level Children's class. The interviewer asked me to teach "I went to...". - Feedback about teaching. - I asked a few questions about the position and career prospects. I received an offer the next day.
