Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at NOV.
Field Service Technician
The interview will involve a general Q&A about your work experience, your contributions, and your expectations. Afterwards, the manager or supervisors will present a schematic of a specific NOV equipment. This schematic test is meant to be challenging, especially if you're new to the industry. They're observing how you perform under pressure, whether you tend to give up or get frustrated. It's important to take your time and work through it. If you're good with schematics, you'll likely do well. If not, that's fine, they'll assist you as long as you show you can learn and keep trying.
- Can you troubleshoot a top drive motor based on a verbal problem description and a schematic of the equipment?
Service Technician
I chatted with a NOV recruiter on the phone and they set up an in-person interview. The in-person interview went great. They asked me basic questions about my background and if I knew about downhole tools like MWD, mud motors, and other drilling equipment. I had experience with these because I used to be a roughneck for a drilling company. Also, I'm a veteran and have a math degree. They seemed really keen, and I was definitely interested in NOV. They told me about the job duties, like 12-hour shifts with lots of overtime, which is what I was looking for. They showed me around the warehouse and said they'd be in touch. I never heard back though. I've been applying to NOV for almost 3 years and this was the first time they ever interviewed me. They really missed out on a good employee.
- Can you tell me about your knowledge of downhole tools?
Maintenance Technician
The interview process involved an experience-based interview and some paperwork related to my previous companies. I also discussed my experience as a technician and the instruments I've used to gain knowledge and how I can contribute to the company's future.
- Can you elaborate on your electrical skills?
- What is your experience in maintenance?
