First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Northeastern University.
Administrative Assistant
I only had one 30 minute Zoom interview. Then they asked for references a couple days later. It took them almost a month to let me know I didn’t get the job. I figured I wasn’t chosen after about a week of no response, but I still would have liked an answer. I told them I needed an answer within two weeks because I was thinking about taking a promotion at my current job, but they didn’t reply to that email. I’m guessing they asked multiple candidates for references instead of just one or two finalists, which would be a waste of a lot of people's time, including their own. I'm not happy with how they didn't communicate or respect my time.
- What makes you want to work in this role?
Administrative Assistant
It was a pretty typical interview process. I had a phone screen first. About three weeks later, I heard back and was invited for an interview that was scheduled for two weeks out. The interview itself was a dual-panel interview. I first met with the hiring manager for about 20 minutes, and then I met with other members of the office for about 45 minutes. After that, it took about a month to hear back, and they said they were still deciding. A month after that, I still hadn't received a response.
- Could you share your key strengths?
- What do you consider to be your weaknesses?
- Can you recount an instance where you had to juggle numerous tasks at once?
Executive Assistant
The interview process was great. It started with a phone call. Then, they scheduled an in-person interview for a week later. I met with the special assistant, who was really nice and made me feel comfortable. After that, I met with five other executive assistants who interviewed me and talked about the job. I felt confident I'd get the offer. They got back to me a week later, but I had already accepted another job that paid $10,000 more. It was a tough decision because I liked the company, but the other offer was also good and recognized my MBA.
- Considering your background, what makes you want to be an Executive Assistant?
- What is your motivation for seeking a role in an academic environment?
