The interview was entirely virtual and I met with a group of people from the department. They asked me a lot of questions related to my experience and the job description. There were some awkward pauses while they wrote down my answers, which made me a little nervous, but they were really nice. It was the most comfortable interview I've had for a state job, and I felt really confident about it.

Behavioral Other

I applied in late June and had an interview in July. It's now August and I haven't heard back, so I doubt I'll get the job. The weirdest part was they checked my references before making an offer, which put me in a bad spot with my current boss. After my interview, they posted the job again and didn't even tell the people they'd already interviewed that they weren't being considered. I find it unprofessional and inconsiderate that they didn't communicate, especially since they re-advertised the role after I interviewed. I get not getting every offer, but a lack of communication is just bad form.

The hiring process at NC State was fairly typical. It moved a bit faster than I have heard is typical. I first submitted an online application. I was contacted to schedule a brief phone interview. After the phone interview, I was invited for on-campus interviews. During the on-campus interview, I met with a panel of six people from various positions within the department including the Dept. Head, the Operations Manager, faculty and other staff.
