First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at NORR.
Project Manager
Got set up by a recruiter. Then I had a 2 person interview with the studio leader and a principal. It was pretty straightforward with simple questions, though it was a bit surprising to see so many people working late on a Friday afternoon in the summer.
- Tell me about a time you had a disagreement and how you resolved it.
Associate
It was a very quick interview, and it felt like they had already found someone for the role. They didn't seem very interested in having a back-and-forth conversation. The interviewer was polite and professional, though.
- Can you tell me about your experience working within project teams?
Administrative Coordinator
I applied online and heard back the next day. The interview was about an hour long, but felt unfocused. It was very conversational and friendly, which could be good if you're expecting an offer, but felt a bit misleading since I didn't get the job. I had to lead the conversation towards the job duties and ended up asking most of the questions. They took a really long time to respond, even after I followed up multiple times. I didn't get the role, even though I thought I was a perfect fit. They went with someone they felt was a 'safer' choice, likely someone content in the coordinator role long-term. I had mentioned wanting to stay in my next role for a while and that it was a step up, but my standard answer about wanting to grow within the company was seen negatively. I did get the feedback I asked for, which is unusual, but I'm still disappointed.
- What kind of music do you enjoy?
Project Architect
I applied on NORR's website and had three interviews, each with someone more senior. They were in a conference room, either one-on-one or a small group. They wanted to see my portfolio and construction documents, and we did a typical Q&A. I got a soft offer via email and verbally. They said I'd hear back in two days after the last interview, but it took over a month for me to call and check. They didn't end up offering me the job.
- Can you explain the different phases of an architectural project, like Schematic Design, Design Development, and Construction Documents, and the level of detail for aspects like MEP and Structural within each phase?
