it's pretty simple: apply online first, then a quick phone call to make sure you're available, interested in sales, and have some customer service background. after that, you'll have an in-person interview, usually with the department manager and maybe another manager. they'll ask you behavioral questions like 'tell me about a time when...' focusing on selling, dealing with tough customers, teamwork, and hitting targets. you might also do a quick walk around the floor or shadow someone to see how you talk to customers and how you'd upsell. if everything goes well, they'll get back to you in a few days to a week with an offer and then the background check and onboarding stuff.

The interviewer seemed really unprepared and didn't even know what role I applied for. She even brought the wrong paperwork at first. What really got me was when she brought up my broken arm and asked if I could handle carrying 20-25 pound dresses in the dress department, specifically looking at my brace. I can totally handle that weight with my good arm, and my injury is temporary. My personal medical info isn't her business, and it felt like she'd already decided not to hire me because of it. Then, for the sales roleplay, she only gave me one prompt and made me play both the customer and the salesperson, which isn't how a roleplay should work. I felt like the whole interview was deliberately messed up because of my visible injury, and it was super unprofessional and discriminatory. I do sales just fine at my current job. I withdrew my application right after because if this is how they treat someone with a temporary injury, I can't imagine how they'd treat someone with a permanent disability.
