Management Trainee
The interview experience wasn't too difficult. The interviewer was very friendly and personable. However, retail isn't the industry for me, so it didn't work out. The schedule was unpredictable, which was an interesting concept to consider, but ultimately not what I was looking for.

Manager
Nordstrom's hiring process aims to find people who are good at customer service and work well with others. It can be a bit different depending on the job and where it is, but here's the usual rundown: First, you apply online through their website. Then, the hiring team might give you a quick call or video chat to talk about your experience and why you want to work there. If they like you, you'll probably have some in-person interviews, maybe with store managers. These chats are mostly about your customer service skills, if you can sell stuff, and if you'd fit in. They'll also ask you questions about how you've handled tough customer situations before, like how you gave great service or dealt with an upset shopper. Since it's retail, they'll also want to know about your schedule, if you can work weekends/holidays, and if you're okay standing for a long time. For some jobs, there might be a last interview with a higher-up manager. After all that, if you're chosen, you'll do a background check and then get the offer. The whole thing usually takes about two weeks, but it varies. They really care about great customer service and want people who are flexible, team players, and love fashion.
- Could you tell me the number of individuals who were under your supervision?
- Can you describe a situation where you delivered outstanding customer service?
- What approach did you take when dealing with a challenging customer?
Loss Prevention Manager
I applied online and heard back from the Loss Prevention District Manager within a few days. We had about an hour phone interview that seemed to go well. He said he'd make a decision by the end of the week, but then I heard nothing. I called him a week later and still no response. I called again and got a voicemail saying he was finalizing things. I tried calling and emailing again with no luck. I eventually gave up. It's been about two months and I still haven't heard anything, not even to say I didn't get the job. I thought I had good experience and he seemed impressed, so I was hopeful. It would be great if the company had better communication so I wasn't left hanging.
