The interview process was poorly organized and the HR group was weak. I was interviewed for a job that paid less than my current salary, which I was not informed about beforehand. I asked HR for feedback post-interview but received none. I was initially interested in the company, but this experience quickly changed my mind.

First, we figure out if we actually need this job. Then, I write up or update the job description. After that, I put ads in newspapers and send info to placement offices and/or online job boards. I screen all the applications using a checklist of criteria. I also do reference checks before the interviews. Then I train the interview team. After that, I interview the candidates myself. I collect all the info on each person and pick who I'm going to recommend. I write down why I picked that person. I call the person I'm recommending and tell them I'm going to recommend them, but it depends on the background check and confirming they can leave their current job. I also ask them if they can do the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation. Lastly, I call the administration at their current district to let them know who I've selected.

The hiring process is much better now than in 2008. At that time, the company had just moved from California to Tennessee and a lot of human resources did not make the move with them, including the HR and Talent Acquisition teams. The processes were pretty much standard. Look for Job on the Web. Apply online. Receive a call for a phone interview. If that phone interview goes well, a face to face interview with the team interested is setup. and if ok, the HR team calls to negotiate salary, vacation, etc.
