Technical Coding System Design
Face-to-face interview on a weekend starting at 9:30 AM. The whole organization of the interview was a mess. Everyone was told to reach by 9:30 AM, but interviews were done based on the arrival order. I got there on time, but I had to wait until 12 PM for my turn. The first round went okay. The interviewer was nice and interactive, and I got good feedback afterwards. The second round was scheduled for 4 PM with the Head of Engineering. Sadly, it was not a good experience. The interviewer started asking 'Why Nike?' I think my answer was not that great, but instead of ending the interview, he proceeded with a technical question about flattening a nested object (tree structure). He insisted that I write the code on paper, not pseudocode. After I finished, he kept saying 'This solution won’t work,' without explaining what was wrong or giving any hints. Even when I asked for clarification, like if it was a logic or syntax issue, he just said 'I’m not sure.' I tried to explain my logic and even did a dry run of the code, but he was not ready to listen and asked me to rewrite it on a fresh paper. After several attempts and no useful feedback, the discussion became quite pointless. I later got feedback that I 'don’t know how to code,' which felt unfair given the interaction.

The interview process was good and the interviewers were respectful. The behavioral part was the main focus and the interviews were back-to-back. Make sure to review your resume beforehand and be ready for common questions. Technical questions are similar to LeetCode, so be sure to brush up on your DSA fundamentals.

The process seems to disregard applicant and hiring manager time. All communication is automated via email. Instead of a 10-minute HR call, applicants are asked to record video responses to questions using HireVue. These videos are then sent to the hiring manager. This takes 30-60 minutes and feels unnatural. You get 2-3 minutes to prepare for each question, and then about 5 minutes to respond, with no cuts or retakes. You'll hear back in 2 weeks via email. It's a strange, time-consuming experience, and you might get disqualified for basic things like salary expectations.
