I had a phone interview, which was pretty much a chat about my availability. Then, I had an in-store assessment where I had to pick an outfit for a friend and explain my choice. After that, they showed me around the store and introduced me to the team. It didn't really feel like an interview, more like a casual introduction.

I had an interview for a Store Assistant position years ago. The interview itself went well and was pleasant, but the rejection method really stuck with me. I received a rejection letter by post, but strangely, it had no stamp. Royal Mail informed me there was a delivery with insufficient postage, so I had to pay the extra postage myself to receive the rejection from Next. They could have just called, emailed, or even paid for the stamp. It was appalling behaviour, and I'm glad I didn't end up working for a company that considers this acceptable. I ended up working for M&S instead.

I got an email saying I was rejected, but then they called a few weeks later asking if I was still interested and did the interview right then and there. The person interviewing me was really nice and made it feel more like a conversation. A few days later, I was called in for an assessment, which I had looked up on Glassdoor beforehand so I had an idea of what to expect. They asked me to put together an outfit for a specific occasion. They said I'd hear back soon, and I did, getting a call two days later and starting the job the week after.
