Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at NEXT.
Merchandiser
I had a virtual assessment with video questions, followed by a virtual interview. It involved basic math problems. The interviewer was aggressive and rushed, and didn't seem interested in my background or experience. Don't be fooled by the 'trainee' label; you need a strong understanding of current events and the daily tasks of merchandising.
- Who are Next's main competitors?
Visual Merchandiser
I applied for Visual Merchandising roles at GAP and NEXT via LinkedIn. I used AI tools to make sure my profile matched the job descriptions. My background is a strong match for what both companies were looking for, given my prior visual merchandising experience. GAP contacted me for a phone screening. I confirmed the date and time with the recruiter and waited all day, but nobody called. I followed up and never got a response. For NEXT, I applied for a role that was a great fit for my skills and experience. However, I got the same automated rejection email twice: “However, unfortunately we have decided not to take your application further at this point in time. While we appreciate the effort you have put into your application, we don’t feel that this role was the perfect fit.” Overall, the lack of communication and generic replies were disappointing. It would be good if both companies could improve their recruitment process by giving more personalized feedback and following through on scheduled interviews.
- Regarding the scheduled phone screening, did you end up having it?
Merchandiser
First, I had to complete a written test in English about the current state of the retail business in Europe. After that, there was an HR interview to go over basic info, and then the merchandising manager interviews, which lasted about 1.5 hours in total.
- Did you have experience with VC calls directly with European buyers?
