Data Scientist
Got asked a lot about logistic regression, in a super deep way, but only logistic regression. It's crazy to me that a company would assess data science skills solely on one model. In my experience, I work more with ensemble models and neural nets, but I couldn't recall some specific logistic regression details and ended up failing. Honestly, it doesn't seem worth going through this interview process.
- Tell me about logistic regression from a statistical perspective.
Data Scientist
I had my first call with the recruiter where we went over some basic screening questions and I talked about my overall fit. After that, I had a phone screen with the hiring manager. This phone screen included a discussion about basic machine learning questions.
- Can you describe how you would perform data manipulation using SQL or pandas?
- For a problem involving an image with positive and negative labels, what algorithm would you choose?
- What metric would you use to evaluate methods?
Data Scientist
It started with a recruiter video call, then a hiring manager video call, and finally a 45-minute SQL interview on Coderpad. I had to answer three SQL questions about insurance policy changes directly on Coderpad, without being able to run the code.
- Could you find the number of policies that began with one package type and concluded with a different one?
