I went through 6 rounds of interviews and got a soft offer. While I was trying to sort out work schedules with HR, they ghosted me. The interviews weren't hard, but the whole process felt messy. It was always like, 'Oh, you need to talk to this person and then this person too.' But yeah, the ghosting was totally unexpected. They could have at least sent a quick email saying scheduling didn't work out and they were moving on, but they sent NOTHING.

The interview process went pretty smoothly overall. First there was an interview, then a writing test, and then I met with the news director. It wrapped up with another interview. They didn't really get into benefits or contract details until the very end, which was a bit hidden. It wasn't overly difficult though.

So I applied online and then had a phone interview. A week later, we did a Zoom interview and some speculative work. A few weeks after that, they had me come in for an in-person interview and an edit test. Then, about a month later, I had a fourth interview where they let me know I was one of the top two candidates. It took months after that, and after I sent over even more info, for them to tell me they went with someone else and suggested I apply for a different role. I did, and then they basically did the same thing again, offering me a really low salary for a job that needed a degree.

I went through a full interview for a news producer job. We talked about my past experience, I showed off some of my previous projects, and we got into how I deal with really tight deadlines and the crazy, changing world of news production. I also had to show I know my way around news production software and had a good chat about what the company is all about and what they're looking for in this job.

  • How do you handle the quick pace and changing situations in news production?
