First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital.
Project Manager
The recruiter called me to set up an interview with two senior project team members for later that week. One of them grilled me with a lot of questions and seemed to find my answers amusing. The other interviewer posed a challenging question that wasn't directly related to the job and looked to the first interviewer for validation, like they were both trying to 'test' me. Honestly, I wasn't too sure about the role after that.
- What's your approach to dealing with stress?
- What motivates your interest in this position?
Project Leader
Got a call to check if I was still interested and then a screening phone interview with HR two weeks later. It was all generic questions. My in person interview was about three weeks after that. The interviewers were really receptive and we had a good conversation. It took about a month for them to ask for references, and then another month before they made an offer. The offer stated a start date a month after that. The whole process from the first contact to actually starting was really long.
- Can you describe how you handle prioritizing different project requests?
Project Leader
The in-person interview was a 4-hour commitment, involving conversations with various team members, doctors, and supervisors in 30-minute segments. There was also a written test assessing responses to a hypothetical conflict scenario. It was quite draining to repeatedly share my background and interests during each 30-minute meeting, but everyone was genuinely friendly and interested in my experience. I never received direct notification about not getting the job; I discovered the status update about a month later by checking my candidate profile online. An email update would have been appreciated after dedicating half a workday for the interview.
- Tell me about a hypothetical situation and how you would react, respond, or remedy it.
- How would you handle pressure, multi-tasking, difficult personalities, and competing priorities, and are you a go-getter?
- What attracts you to NYP?
