I talked to HR on the phone. They have a habit of calling at random times, which I find inconvenient as I'd prefer an email to schedule a time instead of being expected to be available constantly. The HR person asked general questions, but it felt like they were looking for more experience than what's typical for an entry-level position. I also wish they would have at least let me know I didn't proceed to the next step, as that would only take a moment.

I got a surprise call on a Sunday afternoon from the HR head for a phone interview. After that initial chat, they set up an in-person meeting with the Marketing Director for one of the departments. I went to their office, which was full of cubicles, and the director started explaining how the company works. She seemed to really like my background, especially since it was pretty strong for the job. It felt like they were looking for someone who's a go-getter, willing to put in long hours, bring creative ideas, and just do as they're told. Things were going smoothly until I asked about working hours, flexibility, and any perks for the job. She mentioned they have mandatory team meetings at 8 AM and 5 PM every day, no flexible hours, remote work isn't really encouraged, and this role probably wouldn't be going out for any marketing events. I think my startup marketing skills could really help them grow fast and build partnerships through my connections, but maybe that wasn't what they wanted.
