First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at New York & Company.
Manager
I applied online and also sent my resume and a hard copy to the store. The manager called me shortly after getting my resume. She said there was no longer a co-manager opening but there was an assistant manager position, and asked if I was still interested in interviewing. I said yes, and we interviewed two days later. I got an informal job offer. Now I'm waiting to hear back from the District Manager (DM) and/or Regional Manager (RM) for a phone interview, and also for my background check results. The co-manager job was reposted on Glassdoor yesterday, which is a bit annoying since they told me the position was eliminated.
- Can you tell me what you know about NY & Co.?
- How would you describe your management style?
- Could you share an instance where you had to discipline or reprimand an employee?
Assistant Manager
First I met with the General Manager for about an hour inside the store. Then a few weeks later, I met with the District Manager at the store, and we then went to the mall for an interview that lasted about 1.5 hours. About a month after that, I spoke with the District Manager again, and they gave me some tips for how to do well in an interview with regional management over the phone. Finally, I had a 30-minute phone interview with regional management. After that, she told the District Manager that I got the job, and then the District Manager told me.
- What do you consider your best skill set?
- Can you tell me about your experience?
- Describe a situation where you had to address underperformance with an employee.
Assistant Manager
I talked with the Store Manager of one location first, then the District Manager and after that a Store Manager for a different location. Salary was discussed in my last interview and they said they would call me the next Monday. I called them a week later because I hadn't heard anything. It's now been a week and a half and no one has called me back. I'm really disappointed by how unprofessional they were, I would have thought they would at least call me back even if they hired someone else or if my salary request was too high.
- How would you suggestively sell the New York and Company credit card?
- What other questions would you expect for a retail role?
