First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at New York and Company.
Assistant Manager
It was a pretty straightforward interview process. They asked basic questions covering customer service, sales/marketing abilities, leadership qualities, and customer retention strategies. I had three interviews in total: the first was with the store manager, the second with a store manager from a different nearby location, and the final one was with the General Manager.
- Can you describe an instance where you exceeded expectations to help a customer?
Sales Associate
It's a pretty casual interview. Typically, you'll go through one or two rounds. They might throw a curveball and ask you to sell a random item, like how I was asked to sell a stapler. A good strategy is to ask the 'customer' some questions first to figure out the best way to show them why the item is useful for them.
- Can you sell me this stapler?
- Describe a time you resolved a conflict at work.
Sales Lead
Super easy interview process, had 2 interviews, first one was with the store manager and the second one with the district manager. Both interviews were really short, like 10-15 minutes max. They asked easy questions, mostly about what I can do.
- Can you share some of your previous experience and explain how it would be relevant for this role? (Your background doesn't necessarily have to be in retail, as long as you can articulate it well.)
Assistant Store Manager
It was a good interview, very personable. They asked about my experience and what I did previously. What do I live about fashion and what I could contribute to the company now.
- What do you live about fashion?
- What could you contribute to the company now?
