First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at New Visions for Public Schools.
Technical Lead
The interview was good, with an average difficulty, and I passed. They inquired about C2M, its capabilities, and implementation details. They also asked about my experience with implementation projects. The process included a technical round, followed by an HR round, and a final round with the manager.
- What are some errors or issues you've encountered during C2M implementation?
Social Studies Teacher
I found the social studies teacher opening on Indeed.com. After submitting my resume and cover letter, I got a response and we scheduled a HireVue video interview. It wasn't a live video chat, but rather pre-recorded questions I had to answer within a time limit, with up to two retakes per question. About two and a half weeks later, they invited me for an in-person demo lesson. Upon arrival, a teacher met me and asked some questions in her office before I set up for the demo. Since it was summer, no students were present, so three teachers acted as students, fully participating in the interactive lesson, even going off-task to test my classroom management skills. Right after the demo, I met with the principal for about 30 minutes, discussing the school and asking my own questions. The very next day, I received a call offering me the job. New teacher training is in August, and the school year begins September 5th.
- What makes you want to teach at a charter school?
- What activities do you plan to use to get students interested?
- How will you assist students who missed a lot of schoolwork and content due to absences?
Teacher
The interview was half a day long and involved giving a mock 5-minute class presentation to a group of two 10th graders. Although they said no teaching experience was required, it was clear they expected candidates to know how to teach a lesson. Many applicants were former teachers, which was confusing since the posting seemed to imply no prior experience was allowed. It felt like they might have run out of candidates and started accepting people with previous teaching experience, making it hard for those without any background to compete. There seemed to be a disconnect between what New Visions stated and their actual practices.
- Regarding a child acting up in class, how would you handle reprimanding them?
QA Manager
Started with a recruiter call, then I got a take-home assignment about QA. After that, I had a Skype meeting with three people. The QA person whose job I was supposed to take over seemed really incompetent, asking nonsensical questions and then going off-camera right after saying hello. A week after I sent a thank you email, the recruiter told me they were still interviewing. Then I got a generic email saying they'd moved on with someone else. Communication was bad and the pay was really low.
- Can you share an instance where you developed a new process for a company?
