Behavioral

The interview process was pretty straightforward, with a lot of behavioral questions. My situation was a bit unusual because I interviewed really late since they had an open spot, so things moved fast for me. After you interview with New Sector, they help you find a host site. You have to wait to get matched, where you and the site both like each other. I think that part can take a while and might be tougher than the initial interview with New Sector. Some people don't even get matched for the training, but usually, it all works out.

You start by submitting your application materials on their website. Someone reaches out and contacts you regarding your application. Then, you will be put in touch with an alum for your first interview. Upon successful completion of your second interview, you are then scheduled for another interview with a New Sector staff member. The last step is to get accepted into the program. After being accepted into the program, you then interview with host sites to find the right fit for your summer.

The interview process starts with a 20-30 minute phone chat with a New Sector alum. After that, there's a second interview, which is a bit longer at 40-45 minutes. This one can be in-person or over Skype, and mine was via Skype. It went really well; the interviewer from New Sector was super nice and asked mostly typical behavioral questions. They also throw in a creative question at the end!

Confirmed questions4 questions
  • What distinctive skills or experiences can you offer to the summer cohort?
  • List three words your friends would use to describe you, and three words a job supervisor would use.
  • Describe an instance of failure and what it taught you about yourself.

Behavioral Technical

Once I applied, I got an email to schedule a phone interview that was behavior and resume-based with a previous fellow. This program assigns fellows to different nonprofits where they get assigned another supervisor. Every other week, a group of fellows gets together to regroup and talk about what has been working well. It offers other fellows a chance to give advice and help each other with their individual projects.

Confirmed questions1 question
  • Can you share an instance where you lacked sufficient resources and had limited direct oversight?
