First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at New Constructs.
Analyst
First, I had to submit some exercises done in Word and Excel. The week after I sent those in, they emailed me to set up a phone interview. It seemed pretty standard, you know, like 'tell me about yourself' and 'why finance?'. They also asked if I was okay with working long hours during filing season. The pay they offered was really low though. I'm not sure if they figure the experience is worth the pay, or if they're just taking advantage of the current job market for college grads, especially finance majors.
- What aspects of New Constructs do you find attractive, and which do you find least attractive?
- Describe a situation where you were slower to grasp something than your peers and how you handled it.
Analyst
The interview process was very professional and well-structured. I met great people and got a sense of the great culture. They asked some technical questions but mostly informational stuff about me as a person and how I see myself fitting into the company. I would definitely recommend checking it out if you are interested in working in finance in the Nashville area. It's an up and coming firm.
- Could you describe your investment philosophy?
Analyst
They sent me a skills test with an essay and a modeling exercise. They were nice enough to give me extra materials about the firm and some analyst reports to use. I had two deadlines to choose from for the test. After that, I had a phone interview with two analysts. The last part of the process was an on-site interview.
- Can you build a financial model?
