Loan Originator
It was a Zoom interview that lasted about 30 minutes. The manager asked about my background and some questions about overcoming objections. Overall, I'd say it was a typical interview. They did ask about my knowledge of the company, so make sure to do some research beforehand.
- How did you find out about NAF?
- Tell me about your experience.
- What are your strategies for handling customer objections?
Support Engineer
The initial contact was fine. However, when I started asking about timelines and the interview process details, the interviewers became evasive. I suspect they either hadn't finalized the interview process or had already chosen someone for the role. It's frustrating to be expected to perform well when the criteria are unclear. During the interview, one interviewer had to attend to her baby, which was distracting and affected the conversation as she asked irrelevant questions and didn't seem engaged. Despite promises of follow-up by the end of the day or week, I heard nothing until after the holiday, when I was informed they'd selected another candidate. The whole experience was drawn out, uncertain, and lacked clarity on what they were looking for.
- Can you share an instance of experiencing conflict with a colleague?

So I had this recruiter reach out, and we chatted. They seemed to know their stuff about the company. I was really open about having been away from mortgages for a bit. The HR person kept after me and set up the interview, but then they just vanished. After I tried reaching out a bunch, they sent me this kinda snarky email saying I hadn't produced enough in the last 18 months and that I could reapply when I had some.
- How long has it been since you worked in the mortgage industry?
- What types of leads are you seeking?
Mortgage Loan Officer
Had a good first chat with the recruiter. Then, I had a video interview with two of the hiring managers. One of them made me feel really at ease, but the other one came across as really condescending and seemed to be trying to trick me with my answers. I couldn't see him on video because he said he was having connection issues. I tried to be my genuine self, friendly, and authentic throughout. I don't think faking it or memorizing answers from YouTube makes a good employee, but it might make someone good at putting on a show. There are other things to consider when finding the right person. Based on my resume, I'm a self-starter. My previous jobs had tough hiring processes that I got through. I approached the interview the same way I'd treat a borrower – with genuine sincerity, which is key to building trust and getting repeat business. I was really disappointed when the recruiter told me my answers weren't thorough enough. That's because my past jobs weren't corporate; they were in customer service in the travel and music industries, so the questions didn't really fit. I spent weeks researching NAF before applying and they were the only company I sent my resume to because I really liked their values, the family atmosphere, and their laid-back vibe, which I definitely didn't get from one of the hiring managers.
