So the interview process was pretty standard I think. They kept saying how important work-life balance was, but there were some red flags. The final interview was with someone who had only been there two days. I got an offer two days after having a C-section with twins and they wouldn't even push the start date back by a week from the two weeks they gave me. I was so bummed because I thought it would be a great fit, but not even budging on the date when I had serious medical reasons shows they don't really commit to employees. I tried talking to HR about it and they shut it down. It felt like discrimination.

I went through a really long interview process, like 7 face-to-face interviews, each about 30-60 minutes. I was told everyone wanted to hire me and that an offer was coming. They even sent me benefits info, asked for references, and told me to think about a start date. When I asked about salary, which we hadn't discussed since the first interview, they said I'd like the compensation. Mid-next week passed with no update. I emailed the recruiter, and finally got a 5-minute call where they said they weren't moving forward and weren't filling the role at all. It was a huge waste of my time over 23 days. I've never seen anything like this in my 15 years in IT. Seriously, don't bother with this company.

So I applied online for the Software Engineer role at Bright Health and heard back about a week later for a phone call with a technical recruiter. They laid out the interview steps: first, that recruiter call, then a timed HackerRank assessment, followed by a Zoom call with a hiring manager, and finally a panel interview with the engineering team. After the recruiter call, I did the HackerRank test, which had LeetCode easy/medium questions. My tip: show your work in the editor if you get stuck. The hiring manager call was about 30 minutes and focused on my technical and professional background, which was in a different area than Bright Health needed. I basically had to explain how my skills could still be useful. I thought it went alright. I got rejected a few hours after that via email, saying my background wasn't a good enough fit. The whole process was pretty fast, like 3 weeks from application to rejection, and everyone was really nice. My only issue was doing the tech assessment before they decided my background wasn't the right fit.

Behavioral Technical Coding

I had a really good time interviewing with Bright Health in Austin. The recruiters were on top of things and got back to me fast. First, I talked on the phone with the recruiter and then the hiring manager. After that, I did a coding challenge. Then, I had more phone interviews with some of the engineers on the team. Everyone I talked to was super friendly and honest about the company and what the job involves. They made a really strong offer, but I had to pass on it because of personal timing. The team seems super experienced and has some cool ideas, and I would have been happy to join them!
