First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at NetherRealm.
Software Engineer
The people I talked to were really nice and seemed honest. There were two interviews for this job. The first one was mostly technical questions, and the second one included a quick live coding demo and then a chat about game development to see how I approach things.
- They asked me a lot about my C++ technical knowledge to understand what I know and what I still need to learn.
- They asked me about my C++ technical knowledge to understand what I know and what I still need to learn.
Contract Role
Met someone at GDC who gave me a referral. Then we exchanged emails and set up an onsite interview. At the onsite, I got a tour of the studio, then had about 4 or 5 one-on-one interviews where they talked about the role and asked me questions.
- Can you introduce yourself?
- What kind of games do you play?
- What do you do for fun outside of game development?
Producer
So the interview process kicked off with a phone call with a recruiter from Warner Bros. They were super nice and professional, and they answered all my questions really well and with as much info as they could give. Then, the second interview was with the actual team at NetherRealm Studios who were hiring for the Associate Producer role. This was a video call, and I talked with two of the senior producers there. The interview mostly revolved around my previous experiences and asking how I'd deal with some hypothetical scenarios. It felt like they were asking about times I dealt with stress, tight deadlines, and situations where I had to push back to make sure my team's time was protected.
- Could you share an instance where you didn't succeed in an attempt and describe your response?
- Tell me about a time you experienced a stressful situation or challenge.
- How do you manage working under tight deadlines?
User Experience Designer
Had a good phone chat with the recruiter and the UX lead. They then asked if I could come in for a 4 hour block of time mid day, mid week. I was unable to make that time, and that was the end of the interview process.
