The interview process was pretty long. I talked to 5 people in total, and 2 of those were group interviews with 2 people at a time. I met with the current assistant planner first and then the AMDs, and the questions got progressively more vague and harder to answer as we went along.

I applied online and after three weeks, an internal recruiter contacted me about an interview. When I arrived, the recruiter didn't meet me, which felt like a 'fluff' interview, making me suspect they already had someone in mind, possibly through referrals. The hiring manager seemed uninterested, glancing at his computer while asking odd questions. Then, a group of women joined, showing more interest in my skills and potential positive impact on the team. One even said she'd hire me on the spot if she could, feeling I was qualified for an entry-level role despite my years of experience. A major issue was that several people scheduled for the interview never showed up, leaving me waiting for over 15 minutes without an update. I left a note offering to reschedule. I sent thank-you notes that evening, receiving one vague reply wishing me luck, which felt like a polite rejection. After waiting a week, the promised timeframe, I got an email from the recruiter stating they'd chosen another candidate. The whole experience was poorly managed and seemed like a way to justify hiring friends or family.

After a phone screening, I came in for an in-person interview. I met with two company employees who were super friendly and gave me good feedback and honest answers about the company. They were straight-up about what the work at the company would be like but also did a great job showing all the good stuff. There were no tricky questions, difficult assessments, etc. They were really interviewing for personality and energy more than past skills or experience.
