First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Nelnet.
Software Engineer Intern
It started right away, super fast and simple. They kicked things off with a 'tell me about yourself,' then moved to more pointed questions. They wanted to know my future aspirations and really emphasized checking what I knew about the company. Oh, and they asked about my GPA too. Honestly, it was super easy and didn't take long at all.
- What had you learned about our company?
- What do you know about our company?
Software Engineer
We started with a screening call where they asked basic questions about my resume, the company, and my future plans. Then, I had a round with the Hiring Manager where we delved deeper into my resume. Finally, there was a technical screening which involved a hands-on C# challenge and then an Angular challenge in an online Angular environment. They allowed me to use Google during the challenge, just like I would at work.
- They asked a C# challenge about strings, it wasn't complicated.
- An Angular challenge to make a button and submit action, plus some bonus questions.
Software Engineer
My interview experience with Nelnet Philippines was quite frustrating, feeling outdated and rigid. The HR seemed to use old-school hiring practices, expecting candidates to know internal company details before even the first interview. It felt like a quiz on Nelnet trivia rather than an assessment of potential. Their inflexibility and lack of modern recruitment practices show they're out of touch. I expected more innovation from a company in education and financial tech. The process felt more like an interrogation than a hiring process, and I hope they update their strategy.
