First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at NeighborWorks America.
Public Affairs Specialist
It started with an HR screen, then a panel interview, followed by another panel interview with the hiring manager. I made it to the final round but then got ghosted. Being ghosted after final rounds signals disrespect and poor communication, reflecting a toxic work culture that undervalues candidates, lacks transparency, and likely treats employees with the same disregard and inconsistency.

Relationship Manager
After a really long application, the recruiter missed our scheduled call and just asked for my salary expectations via email. Then, I had a panel interview with five people, which was my first time meeting anyone from the company. They were interesting and clearly good at their jobs, but some questions were odd, like a quiz on the company's history and impact. I got to the final round, which was fine, but they never even sent a basic rejection. The whole thing took weeks, and even after I followed up a few times, I never heard back about whether the job was filled.

Senior Director of Assessments
I had a Zoom interview with two HR people. It was supposed to be 30 minutes but went for about 50 minutes. One recruiter was nice and asked typical questions. The other was kind of rude, seemed like he was seeing my resume for the first time and looking for problems. I felt like I was defending myself for 30 minutes. He even asked why I was only at a job for three years. Three years! It wasn't a good first impression. I ended up withdrawing my application because it was a really strange and off-putting interview. There's a way to ask questions to get more info or dig deeper, but this guy needs to learn how to interview people.
- Could you explain your tenure of three years at your previous organization?
Administrative Assistant
It was a three stage process. We started with a call/sit down with HR, then a panel interview with my immediate supervisor and two senior folks in the business unit. After that, I had a third interview with some remote directors where we talked about more specific details of what they needed. The vibe was pretty laid back, and I already knew everyone in the unit.
