First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Nebraska Furniture Mart.
Sales Associate
I was hired before the store opened, so maybe things have changed. But that multiple-choice personality test is still the main way to get hired at NFM. Seriously, don't ignore it. I think a lot of people don't get past the test, but if you do well, you're pretty much guaranteed a job. With my 17 years of experience, I guess I aced the test because the interview was mostly a formality. The interviewer asked a few normal questions but spent most of the 20 minutes trying to sell me on the job. After that, I was sent straight to HR with a note. I sat down with someone there and was offered the position I wanted with the pay I was looking for.
- Describe a situation and what you would do.
- Can you share an instance where you delivered excellent customer service?
- Tell me about a mistake you've made at work.
Sales Associate
First, there was a short phone interview that lasted about 15 minutes. After that, there was an in-person interview that could take anywhere from 45 to 90 minutes. It's really important to dress well for the in-person interview. They expect you to wear slacks, a button-up shirt, and a tie or bowtie. I'd suggest wearing a jacket too. You'll meet one-on-one with a manager who knows a lot about the department that's hiring.
- Can you share an instance where your work ethic was acknowledged?
- Tell me about a time you successfully resolved a difficult customer interaction.
- What is one aspect of your prior employment you would alter?
Sales Associate
the interview process was good overall, though the sales manager came across as a bit arrogant and dismissive of the competition. it felt a bit odd given that i'm new to such a big market. they might grow a lot in market share, but i'm not sure about that right now.
- Could you tell me about your experience?
- Are you comfortable working nights, weekends, and holidays?
