Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at NCSA College Recruiting.
Recruitment Specialist
The interview process was very structured and organized, aiming for quick and efficient candidate progression. A central system and a recruiter-type figure managed the interview stages effectively, and this person was outstanding. The first interview was a phone call with a VP, which was enjoyable and inspiring, making me want to work for such a passionate and respectful leader. However, the second VP provided a very negative experience during the final video conference stage (WebEx). This VP came across as arrogant and autocratic from the start. While explaining the compensation and commission package by sharing their screen, internal chat messages popped up, displaying vulgar and derogatory language that seemed directed at me. This was shocking and caused me to disengage. It might be advisable to implement a protocol to disable internal chat during video calls.
- Can you describe your experience?
Recruiting Coordinator
I went through three interviews for this role. First was a phone chat with HR. Then a second, longer phone interview which started late because they had the wrong time scheduled and had to reschedule. I thought the second interview went well and learned a lot. The final interview was over WebEx. This one felt weird because the interviewer seemed to be trying to talk me out of the job, saying it was brutal and unfulfilling. After that, I was supposed to hear back by the end of the week about an offer, but I was completely ghosted after three interviews and no response for five days. I think at least a no would have been decent.

Recruiting Coordinator
You’ll have an interview with one of the recruiting managers who leads a team of coordinators. They'll ask some traditional questions like why you want to work for NCSA, your goals, and how your past experience aligns with this role. It’s a good idea to ask about the day-to-day details of the job, like how many meetings happen each week and what the expectations are.
