NCS Software Engineer Interview Questions

So I applied directly to NCS through LinkedIn for a Melbourne based role and got a call from HR at NCS. The interview process was short with only 2 rounds. The first round was an hour long technical interview (last week of Nov 2024) and the second round was a half-hour long manager interview (a week later). I liked the technical interview, it was pretty chill and more of a chat with some questions. But the manager in the second round seemed a bit rushed. It was overall a quick and direct interview process. A week later (second week of Dec), I followed up and was told I passed and would likely start after the holidays. Then, the manager who interviewed me asked me to redo my resume in an NCS template by EOD, which was a red flag because it was a lot of work for a role I hadn't been formally offered yet. Redoing it took a lot of time. The next day, the manager called again asking me to send it by midday, which felt pushy since I wasn't even employed yet. This experience made me question working there, especially with their low Glassdoor reviews. I expected HR to contact me after the holidays, but they didn't. After I called in the second week of Jan 2025 and CCed the manager, HR asked me to wait longer. This made me wonder if the role was even approved or if they valued applicants' time. Four weeks later (first week of Feb), HR told me the client hadn't responded and it might not be good news. It felt like a waste of my time, and NCS might have been hiring speculatively. They are still advertising many roles. My advice: if NCS gives a verbal offer, get a formal one before doing any more work, like redoing your resume.

The interview process was pretty well organized with a reasonable timeline. The Hirevue part felt a bit like a waste of time, but the interviewers were nice. I liked that there were only two rounds for this kind of job.

First, you'll have to complete an online coding and logical thinking test on Hackerrank that lasts for an hour. Then, you'll attend an interview, and you won't know if you passed the quiz beforehand. The interview starts with a brief self-introduction. You'll need to showcase a technical project in software engineering, even if your academic background is in electrical engineering. Despite it being a graduate program, they expect you to already have the necessary expertise. The interviewers are mentors who will guide the selected graduates. You'll find out if you're accepted within a week.
