First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Navair Technologies.
ESDP Engineer
I first talked to a campus recruiter and then had an on-campus interview. This interview was mostly behavioral and asked about skills like leadership, being a self-starter, and my education. After that, I had a phone interview with another recruiter, which was similar to the on-campus one, focusing more on the ESDP opportunity. Next, I visited both China Lake and Point Mugu locations. At China Lake, ESDP candidates were given salary offers immediately, and the recruiter observed if I was a good fit. Finally, I interviewed with several staff members in a conference room. They asked behavioral questions and about the company.
- Tell me about your strengths and weaknesses.
- Describe a significant challenge you've faced.
- Can you share your experience with Software, Hardware, RF, DSP, Radar, and similar areas?
Electrical Test Engineer
I went to a hiring event at my university and gave my resume to a recruiter who was also a hiring manager. I then got an email to go to Navair’s facilities in San Diego for a tour and an onsite interview. I had an interview that was about 40 minutes with two hiring managers. They asked me about my project experience and gave me some STAR behavioral questions. It wasn't a technical interview at all, mostly about my personality. It was a good experience overall, though it would have been nice if they paid for travel.
- If you have a right triangle with a line from the 90 degree vertex to the hypotenuse, creating two similar right triangles, and you're given sides a, b, and c, how would you find the unknown length using a and b?
- Can you explain the PEMDAS order of operations?
- Tell me about a project you're particularly proud of.
Software Engineer
I had my first interview on campus which was behavioral. The recruiter talked about the company for about 10 mins, then we talked about my projects and some scenarios for the next 20-30 mins. About a week later, I got a call to schedule a phone interview with two software engineers where we talked about similar questions from the first interview. I was then invited for a site interview but I declined.
- Can you tell me about the hardest project you've worked on and explain the reasons behind it?
- What steps did you take to overcome the challenges you faced?
- Tell me about the most challenging project you've worked on and the reasons why.
Recent Grad Engineer
It was from a career fair. After I handed them my resume and mentioned I was an electrical engineering major, they scheduled the interview. Only that major back there would go straight to the interview. The interview was one on one at my school and they just asked the questions listed on the form. They would offer you a job after that. But I only heard one out of my 40 classmates got the job.
- Can you tell me about your public speaking abilities?
- How did your senior project go?
- What was your specific contribution to your team?
