Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Nationwide.
Software Engineer Intern
The interview process involved questions about my past projects and experience. They asked about my knowledge of coding languages, testing, and project collaboration methodologies. They also asked why I was interested in Nationwide. Additionally, I was asked about my preferences for a company, both currently and for the future, and what constitutes a good company.
- What makes a good workplace?
- What software are you knowledgeable about?
- What testing methodologies are you aware of?
Software Engineer
The interview started with a logic-based aptitude test, then moved to a technical interview, and concluded with an HR interview. The interviewer was quite calm and made sure I didn't feel stressed. They asked basic programming and networking questions.
- Could you explain what Abstraction means in Object-Oriented Programming?
Software Engineer
I had a phone interview where three people on a conference call discussed the company and the project they needed a new hire for. They asked about my past job experience and some Object Oriented Programming concepts, specifically wanting textbook answers for the four principles, even though their desired answers were a bit similar. They also inquired about my framework experience. The in-person interview had the same three people plus the manager. We went over programming principles again and talked more about the project's architecture. I later found out they couldn't hire me because of budget issues.
- Can you explain the MVC pattern?
