Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Nationwide.
Administrative Assistant
First, I got a call from the HR person for the department and we chatted about the job. Then, about a week later, I had my first interview with the hiring manager. In that same meeting, he introduced me to the folks I'd be working with. I met with each of them one on one, and then talked to the hiring manager again. I came back for a second interview with a VP about a week after that.
- Can you tell me about your experience that is relevant to this role?
- Describe a time you had to manage competing priorities.
- How do you typically handle stressful situations?
Executive Secretary
Recruiter phone screened me, then I interviewed with the hiring manager. Next, I had to interview with the direct reports and the person who was leaving the position. The VP said they were moving forward with the process after all discussions, and then... nothing! I followed up with the manager and the recruiter. Finally, I called the recruiter to ask about the process and was told, "Oh, he was supposed to call you last week." It was already late the next week. The hiring manager finally called – totally unprofessional.
- What are your long-term career aspirations within the Company?
Executive Secretary
The process was quite long! I went through about 4 or 5 interviews, each lasting between 30 to 60 minutes. Some parts also involved written assignments. You'll need to explain your work history and how you collaborate with others, plus they'll ask situational questions.
- Can you share an instance where you spotted and fixed a minor issue before it escalated?
- Tell me about your work history and your collaboration style.
- Describe a time you faced a situation and how you handled it.
