Claims Adjuster
The interview for the Claims Position I role was virtual. Although that specific role was no longer open, the interviewers told me about a comparable role that fits my background and skills and might be a good match.
- Can you tell me about your claims experience?
- How would you describe your customer service skills?
Claims Adjuster
First, I got a pre-screening link from HR that I had to complete in 2 days. It said video interview, but it was actually just typed and recorded verbal responses about my work history, skills, and availability. A few days later, I got an invitation for a recorded interview with 9 questions: 7 STAR questions, an introduction, and a 'why Nationwide' question. About a week after that, I got invited to a virtual interview, and I picked one of the 3 dates/times offered. Two Nationwide folks asked me about my skills, experience, and availability, plus more STAR questions. They were really nice and made it relaxed. A week later, they called with a contingent offer, and then I had to do a drug screen, background check, credit check, and in-person I-9 verification. A week after that, they let me know the drug screen and background check contingencies were cleared and gave me my training schedule. I got my work equipment a few days before training started, and now I'm in my third week of employment. You have to pass the licensing exam for all contingencies to be removed.
- Can you share an instance where you faced a difficult work challenge and how you managed accountability?
- Tell me about a time you went above and beyond for a customer and how you knew that's what they wanted.
- Describe a situation where you had to adjust to a major change during an assignment.
Claims Adjuster
I put in my application online after seeing the job posting on their website. About a week later, I got an email asking me to set up a phone interview. The person who was going to do the interview sent me a confirmation email, and we locked in the date and time. On the day, she actually called me 30 minutes before our scheduled time and, while we were talking, flat out told me I had the time wrong based on the email. It felt like she only kept talking because she felt obligated. She was pretty rude and acted like I was weird for getting all three insurance licenses, especially since I have a degree in HRM. I guess changing careers is uncommon. A week after that, I got an email saying I didn't get the job. It was disappointing, but I kind of expected it even though I thought I answered her questions really well.
- Why are you interested in becoming an adjuster?
- Can you tell me about the skills you possess that are relevant to this role?
