Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at National Democratic Institute.
Project Assistant
The process was super smooth and straightforward. They asked questions about my project and program experience. It was a panel interview with the director and the program management team. They wanted to know about my past project and program management experience, my IT skills, teamwork ability, time management, and monitoring, evaluation, and reporting skills, among other things. The interview itself took about 30 to 45 minutes, and I heard back within a week.
- Tell me about the challenges you've encountered in past projects and programs and the solutions you devised.
Project Assistant
I applied for the project assistant/intern role on a regional team. About a week later, I got a phone call for a 15-minute screening. They asked some basic stuff like why I was interested in the region and what challenges I saw it facing. Two days after that, they sent over a writing assignment. It took about an hour and involved writing an executive summary about problems in a made-up country. Then, I had an hour-long interview with three team members.
- What's a challenge you think this region is dealing with?
- What challenge do you see facing the region?
Program Assistant
I did a quick first chat, then a writing assignment, and then a two-hour sit-down with the program manager. After that, I didn't hear back from NDI, no rejection, and they didn't reply to my follow-up emails.
- What are your long-term career aspirations, looking 10 years ahead?
