First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Nanyang Technological University.
PhD Student
Had a code interview where the task was to train a small MLP network to reconstruct an image within 30 mins on Google Colab. It's a coordinate-based implicit neural representation where a small MLP takes pixel coordinates as input and regresses RGB values. Positional encoding on coordinates was used to improve high-frequency reconstruction. Time was very limited for training.
- What are the bases for positional embedding and MLP?
PhD Student
Typically, an interview involves the professor and one of their postdoctoral students. The discussion will cover your master's thesis, followed by general physics inquiries, focusing on assessing your practical application abilities. If necessary, there might also be questions designed to evaluate your programming proficiency.
- Could you tell me about your thesis?
- What are your thoughts on physics in general?
- Can you demonstrate your application skills?
PhD Student
First, I introduced myself, talking about my undergrad school and master's experience. Then, I went into my past research experience based on my resume. After that, we talked about my future research plan. We also briefly touched upon supervised-learning, semi-supervised learning, and unsupervised learning. Finally, I got to ask them some questions.
- Can you tell me about your past research experience based on your resume?
- What are your future research plans?
- Could you briefly explain supervised-learning, semi-supervised learning, and unsupervised learning?
