Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at MyTutor.
Tutor
You had an online pre-recorded video interview. It had general questions about why you want to be a tutor and your past tutoring experience. You also had to teach a student on a topic. You had 4/6 minutes to read the question and record yourself. You could repeat the recording at least once. There was also a safeguarding question that you likely needed to answer correctly to get the job.
- What motivates you to pursue tutoring?
- Can you describe your previous experience tutoring?
- Deliver a mock teaching session on a specific subject.
Tutor
The interview involved an introduction to the company and questions about my qualifications, given I had just started university. This was followed by a mock teaching session where I used their online workspace to explain a subject. I chose quadratic equations, but candidates can select their own topic. Afterward, they provided feedback on my tutoring style, highlighting strengths and areas for improvement.
- Could you show us how you'd tutor a GCSE student on a particular subject?
Tutor
It was a virtual interview using a video-based answering system. They checked my passport, and the whole process was really easy and went smoothly. Since I applied for an English tutor position, they asked some questions related to the subject matter, mostly about the course material and how I would teach the lessons.
- What is your time commitment for this role?
- How do you plan to deliver your lessons?
- Can you explain your knowledge of the course content?
