First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at MVM.
Youth Care Worker
The interview process was pretty quick and easy. They really wanted to know if you had experience working with youth or children before and if you could speak Spanish. Those were the main things they asked about. The rest of the questions were pretty standard interview stuff.
- Tell me about your experience working with children or youth.
- Can you hold a conversation with me in Spanish?
Analytical Linguist
The interview process was pretty good overall. First, there was a screening where they talked about the job and asked about my availability for the required hours per week. What could be better is letting candidates know the agency they'd be working for. A big issue was that they don't hire linguists if their parents or close family members have little to no legal status in the US, and they won't acknowledge your qualifications, judging you based on your background instead. I was offended by the security clearance results, especially since all linguists work for Homeland Security. The clearance is really long and difficult, so be ready to share a lot about yourself and your past 7 years.
- Could you describe the job you're interviewing for and confirm you're okay with its requirements?
- Are you available to work the necessary hours weekly?
Linguist
I was contacted by a recruiter on LinkedIn for a phone interview. When considering moving forward with the hiring process, I was hesitant due to their poor reputation. I inquired about the company's known high employee turnover, lack of communication regarding scheduling, and the absence of opportunities for advancement within the company. Instead of addressing my concerns appropriately, they demonstrated the very issues I feared by sending a rejection message shortly after, citing laziness perhaps, but in a very unprofessional manner.
- Tell me about a time you faced a challenging situation that tested your morals and how you handled it.
Contracts Manager
Had an initial phone screen, and then about a week later, I was passed along to a different HR person. After that, I had an in-person interview that lasted for 2 hours and involved 4 different people. They asked me a lot of questions about my experience, plus some behavioral questions that were kind of confusingly worded. The overall vibe of the interview felt more like they were deciding if I was a good fit, rather than a mutual thing where we both figure out if it's a good match.
- What is your greatest weakness?
