Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Mutual of Omaha.
Insurance Agent
I attended 3 interviews with the recruiter and managing director. Each interview was very easy going and low-stress. It was mostly an ongoing conversation with the MD so she could get a feel for my previous experience, work ethic, goals, and what my overall personality type was in order to see if I would be a good fit. I felt very comfortable asking questions pertaining to the job and company, and I felt that I was given honest answers. I felt like each interview did a good job mapping out what the opportunities are at MoO and where there is room for growth. The MD did a good job of making that "path" relevant to me and my experience so I could get an idea of how a career at Mutual of Omaha may go.

- Can you describe your work ethic?

So first we had this initial telephone contact, then I sent in my application and resume. After that, the branch manager called me for a telephone interview. A week later, I went in for an in-person interview. A few days after that, a third party did a background and credit check. Then, about a week later, I had to take an online Sales personality test. After all that, there was appointment paperwork and then about 20 hours of studying Mutual of Omaha's internal procedures plus some mandatory online training, around 40 hours total. That was followed by more mandatory training out of town, which they didn't mention upfront or pay for. It was pretty irritating, especially since I was already a licensed, experienced agent. The whole interview and hiring thing cost me a month of income.
- What are your financial goals for the next 1, 2, and 5 years?
- What is the size of your current client base?
- How many contacts do you have on Facebook?

Got a call from a recruiter to set up an interview. The vibe at MOH is really good and welcoming. The interview itself was a one-on-one with the District Sales Manager. He was super understanding and made it feel more like a chat than a formal interview. He asked some standard questions, like about my strengths and weaknesses, why I picked my major, and why I want to work there. He also looked over a questionnaire I'd filled out and asked questions based on that, for example, about balancing family time with the job.
- How do you plan to balance family time, which you said is very important, with your role as an agent here?
- What led you to choose your major?
