The review was pretty straightforward given my background. It was handled by two people, one from HR and the other a financial advisor. The HR person started by outlining the job description and the company's history, while the FA went into the specifics of what's expected. Since I was a financial advisor before, not much was new except for the insurance and retirement planning aspects, which were outside my prior experience. It was a pleasant interview overall, as both interviewers were very courteous. Based on the interview, it's clear that today's FAs require more education in planning and a readiness to approach clients holistically.

I had a quick phone chat with someone from Charlotte, NC, and then got called back for an in-person interview in Raleigh, NC the following week. The in-person part was kinda weird. The interviewer showed up 25 minutes late and didn't even seem bothered by it. During the interview, I was hit with really specific questions about being a financial advisor, and the interviewer spent more time rambling about his own background than asking about mine. He even took a phone call mid-interview and chatted for a few minutes like I wasn't even there. Then, he had me take a personality test and told me I "failed" it right after. He actually tried to tell me what answers to give beforehand, but I answered honestly to be true to myself. Guess Mutual of Omaha isn't the right fit, and this whole experience left a bad impression.

I interviewed 2 times before turning down the position. The first interview was about information regarding the position and Mutual selling me on the job. The HR rep was very friendly and helpful during the interview process. The first interview was with the HR rep and the second was with her and an office manager. The position is called financial advisor but you don't actually do that until the second year. The first year is selling insurance. The company wants you to solicit 100 family members and friends to begin. There is no base pay even though salary was listed as $45,000. This is not a good job for those who don't have money saved up to last for months.
