Murphy Research Interview Questions
& Process

I was emailed by the Talent Development Manager and then had a phone screening with her. A few weeks after that, I went for an in-person interview in Santa Monica with 3 team members. The whole thing took about 2 months, mostly because of the holidays, but the Talent Development Manager was really good about keeping me updated via email and always responded quickly. The phone screening covered the job in more detail, asked about my skills, and went over the benefits and company. For the in-person interview, I first met with two people (assistant general manager and creative director), and then with the research director. I liked the first part because it was laid-back and conversational, with two people making it less nerve-wracking. The second interview with the research director was a bit more intense for me because her background in research is different from my design experience. I struggled with some of her questions, and we didn't really click as much as I did with the others, though she was pleasant and seemed engaged. About a week after the interview, I sent a follow-up email to one of the interviewers but didn't hear back. A week after that, I emailed the Talent Development Manager, and she replied the following week with a nice email explaining that the position had been filled. All in all, interviewing with Murphy was a really positive experience, even though I didn't get the job. The atmosphere was welcoming, the office was beautiful, and the team was very helpful.

I had a bad experience interviewing with Murphy Research for their Research Associate position. The first interview, the recruiter was super late and looked unprofessional. Even though I talked about my experience, she didn't seem to have read my resume and made me resend it. After that, I was given a marketing project that was supposed to take 30 minutes but ended up taking 3 hours, and it was sent to me the day before a holiday. She later said the team was interested and wanted me to interview with two managers for a 2-hour interview. I prepared a lot for this. But then, the day before, she emailed saying I wasn't qualified and I wouldn't be moving forward. I felt misled and that my time and money spent preparing were wasted.

It started with a phone chat with the HR Director and then I heard back about the next steps. After that, they invited me in and had a day planned out for me, including who I'd be meeting and some info on each person, which made me feel pretty comfortable. There were a good number of interviews that day, but it felt worth it to meet everyone. Even though the president was away, he made time to talk to me and answer my final questions about the company and what the role involves.

The whole process was handled via email, and I didn't actually talk to anyone until I got to the office. I met with one person for about an hour. The office vibe was a bit odd - it was an open layout with low cubicle walls, but everyone was super quiet, like totally silent. It was a little spooky.
