First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Mullen.
Art Director
Started with a recruiter call, then two phone interviews with Creative Directors. After that, I had a 5-hour in-person interview session at Mullen's offices. It was surprisingly one of the best interview experiences I've had. They even took me out to lunch. I had great conversations with most of the Creative Directors. They were understanding when I had to decline for personal reasons and took extra time to figure out why. Even though Mullen wasn't the right fit for me, the people there are amazing. If you can meet them at eye-level, speak confidently and honestly about your experience, they will treat you very well during the hiring process.
- Could you share your favorite piece from your portfolio and explain your reasoning?
Media Planner
A former VP at Mullen connected me with the Chief Media Officer, who then got me an interview for the Assistant Media Planner role. I had a bit of a hiccup at first with the elevators and security, so definitely check in with security and follow their lead. I met with four people over two hours, usually in pairs. Everyone was really friendly and easy to talk to. One chat went a little longer than expected. They asked about my favorite campaigns, my digital media experience, my expectations for the role, and my future career goals. I wasn't fully prepared on the day-to-day tasks, inter-departmental collaboration within media, and career progression for media planners. Otherwise, it went well. It felt a bit like a courtesy interview because everyone mentioned the CMO referral, which made me a little uncomfortable. Still, it was a valuable learning experience.
- Which Mullen campaign do you like the most right now?
Project Manager
I sent my application by email after seeing an ad on a job board. I was contacted back pretty quickly, about 2 weeks, to set up a first phone interview before an in-person one. The phone interview was standard, about 30 mins, with a good back-and-forth, they were upfront about salary and the tasks. Then, I had a 45min interview at their office. It was quite on time, they asked a lot of justified questions about my skills and were very precise about the job's realities (tasks, team, schedule, etc.). I got positive feedback 2 days after the in-person interview, and the job was as they presented it.
- Who do you think are the direct competitors of your future client?
Media Buyer
Had a phone interview where they asked typical interview questions. They asked about my past experience, my knowledge of the position, and my knowledge of the field. They also asked why I was interested in Mullen in particular and how I had heard about them/what I knew about them.
- Can you tell me about yourself and your previous experience?
- What do you know about this role?
- What's your understanding of the media buying industry?
