First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at MTS Systems.
Mechanical Engineer
I applied online after a referral. The first step was a phone interview, and then I was invited for an on-site interview. The on-site part included a technical presentation where I had to talk about 1-2 projects I'd done. After that, we did a tour, and then I had 4-5 one-on-one interviews. The first one involved a quick physics quiz. For the second, I had to draw a rough design for a testing rig. The remaining interviews were pretty standard. It was a really intense and thorough process, definitely showed who I was as a candidate. I was surprised by how comprehensive it was.
- Can you sketch out a conceptual drawing of how you would design a test machine to test _____?
Mechanical Engineer
They asked some questions about what recent mechanical device I have thought about and asked me to describe it. I think it was a helpful way to determine both the conceptual ability and verbalization ability of a person. They followed by asking various aspects of my educational experience and experience outside of education.
- Can you describe a mechanical device you've recently considered?
- Tell me about your education.
- What about your experiences outside of school?
Mechanical Engineer
The interview process involves two questions: one about the ideal gas law and another about the mass flow rate equation. They don't focus too much on GPA if you have relevant experience. If you're really keen on working at MTS, get involved with Formula SAE.
- How do you solve a problem?
