I got an unexpected call pretty soon after applying on LinkedIn for the Outside Sales Rep role. The hiring manager mentioned they don't usually interview people not in California, but my resume was strong enough to warrant a chat. The first call was about 40 minutes and felt really positive. Then, radio silence for three weeks. I reached out on LinkedIn, and a few days later, the same hiring manager called back and basically repeated all the same questions from the first call. After that, she set up a phone interview with the regional manager. This call happened the next evening, but the manager was driving and in and out of her car the whole time, asking really basic questions about my past jobs. The next day, I got an email saying they weren't moving forward, citing my answers about why I left previous jobs as the reason.

Make sure you know the company before the interview. Ask HR questions about the job so you know what you'll be doing. There are two interviews. First, you'll meet with the direct manager. He liked that I asked questions about the company. It wasn't nerve-wracking. Second, you'll face a panel of 4-5 people. You need to give a 2-5 minute presentation about yourself. They'll give you questions to answer in your presentation. Then they'll ask questions. One person kept asking the same question over and over. They really want to know who you are.

Behavioral Technical Presentation

The interview process wasn't anything out of the ordinary. It started with a phone screening by corporate HR, followed by a phone interview with a Sales Engineer. Then, I had a phone interview with the Senior VP of Sales, who was a great guy. We mostly discussed my resume and the responsibilities of the role. The next step was a trip to their headquarters in San Diego to meet everyone. I interviewed with both Sales Engineers there, had a quick chat with the CFO, and finished with an interview with Bob Leone, the CEO.

It was a lengthy process that felt unnecessary. Started with a phone call with the recruiter to go over my resume. Then I had an in-person interview with the Sales Manager for a background and expectations chat. After that, I met the VP in person, which was a really negative experience. I was then invited for a ride along, but I didn't end up going. This was followed by a panel interview and then an interview with the CEO.
