Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Mott MacDonald.
Consultant
The application process had two interviews and was pleasant and clear. Both interviews focused on my background and experience as a technical consultant in the energy sector, supplemented with questions about my working methods and problem-solving skills. The interviews were substantive, but not unnecessarily difficult or complex, and mainly allowed for an open dialogue about my knowledge, motivation, and how I would fit into the team. Overall, I found the process accessible and professional, with a clear mutual introduction.
- How do you use your technical knowledge to translate complex energy issues into practical solutions for clients?
Senior Consultant
I went through 2 rounds of interviews. The first was with managers and working level folks, it felt like a positive environment and they asked some technical questions about specific topics and the industry. The second round was with senior management and involved a presentation on a specific topic that was suggested earlier, followed by spontaneous Q&As.
- Can you tell me about yourself?
- Could you discuss your previous experience?
Consultant
I applied directly and got an email saying the manager wanted to chat. I prepared for an interview and it turned out to be a comfortable chat about my experience and future goals with two interviewers. Two days later, HR called with feedback that the interview went well but they had another candidate. They said I'd hear back the following week. After 10 days of no news, I emailed the initial contact with no response. The next day, I got an email with a survey about the process, and at the bottom it said they'd keep my details for future roles. I still hadn't heard anything concrete, so I called the Cardiff office. A lady said she didn't know about my process but that it would probably take another 2 weeks if it was with those two people. I'm still waiting.
- What are your future aspirations in the next few years?
- What motivates your interest in working for Mott Macdonald?
- Could you outline your professional background or guide me through your CV?
