First there were technical written tests that covered Java basics, programming skills, and DB experience. Then two people reviewed the tests and talked through the answers. This seemed to be about education and engineering ability. After that, HR did a 1:1 interview discussing salary, the job, career development, and company culture. Finally, the director who is my manager now had a casual chat with me. That was it.

Things moved fast. A week after the phone interview, they brought me in for about 3 hours of interviews, some panel and some one-on-one. A couple days later, they let me know an offer was coming. It took another week to get the offer, but I knew it was coming.

Behavioral Group

Had an initial phone interview with the hiring manager, then an interview with a colleague. Got invited onsite for group and 1:1 interviews. The company checked my references and interviewed them. The hiring manager initially offered a telecommute job, which I liked. When I went onsite, there was more pressure to relocate. I think I didn't get the job because I wasn't local, though they never asked if I would relocate. The communication was really bad, I had to keep asking the hiring manager for updates, even after he gave me timelines. The company structure seemed chaotic.
