First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Motion Recruitment.
IT Manager
I got contacted by a recruiter on LinkedIn. I was a bit iffy but sent my resume. The first call was with a recruiter from Canada, there was static but it went okay. She seemed nice. Then, a local recruiter from Irvine called. This guy was not great, kind of a bad attitude. He gave me some messed up details about a test I did with their client and then lied about why the client rejected me. He even defended the client when I called him out on the bad info. The test itself was rough because of the logistics and bad info. The Canadian recruiter was helpful though, unlike the Irvine one who had an attitude I’ve seen before.
- Can you tell me about your project management experience in terms of years?
Community Manager
The recruiter texted and emailed me about a role with their client. We had a screening call where they described the job and company, and I shared my experience. After the recruiter decided I was a good fit, they passed my resume to the hiring manager. I followed up a few days later for an update, but they said there wasn't any. It's been about a month now, and I haven't heard back, feeling ghosted. This company seems to just collect resumes and then disappear. It was a pretty bad and inconsiderate experience.
- Could you elaborate on your background?
Software Engineer
My initial interaction was with a friendly HR person. The first stage mainly involved simple yes/no questions about my technical background. Although the job was advertised as junior, the offered salary was much lower than the market rate. After discussing this, they did raise the compensation to the bottom 25% for the role. Following the initial HR check, I had a chat with the recruiter’s manager. However, they quickly mentioned they were only considering candidates with specific React experience, especially with the adjusted salary. This was despite me meeting all other requirements. All in all, the process wasn't great given the mismatch between their technical expectations and the pay.
- Have you worked with SQL before?
Software Engineer
Motion connects you with clients and is very helpful throughout. We had an initial call to touch base, then scheduled a meeting. This meeting was efficient as I met with about 5 Motion recruiters in one hour, and they presented their opportunities. After that, they contacted clients I was interested in, and I heard back from one. The subsequent interview process depends on the client, not Motion, so my experience there may differ. I did receive a job offer and am happy with my current position.
- It was more of a get-to-know-you with Motion.
- The client questions were average, with two conversations.
- There was one technical interview involving an easy puzzle algorithm code problem solved live.
