First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Morton's Restaurant Group.
Host
I had a call with the hiring manager. We talked about my hobbies, why I left my last job, and my strengths and weaknesses. They asked how others would describe me. We also discussed my knowledge of the restaurant, why I want to work there, and what I like about the hospitality industry and being a host. They inquired about my availability and my understanding of the day-to-day responsibilities. They also asked why I think this job will fit me.
- Why do you feel this position aligns well with your profile?
Bar Manager
I went through two interviews, which were short and to the point. After being hired, the training was incorrect, and I was given the wrong paperwork. I received training in departments other than the one I was hired for, which was not what I expected. There was a lot of tension among the bar staff and a lack of clear direction from them.
- How many years of experience do you have in this industry?
- What is your management experience?
- How many individuals have you supervised?
Server
I had 4 interviews for the Server/Waiter role. I met with the chef, the GM, the AGM, and the kitchen manager. During the interviews, I was asked to list top shelf vodkas, bourbons, and gins. They also asked me about my interest in fine dining and why I wanted to work at Morton's.
- Can you describe the steps of service from your previous job?
- What are the top shelf vodkas you know?
- What are the top shelf bourbons you know?
Waiter/Bartender
First, you'll need to complete the initial application and a quick quiz testing your knowledge of general food, drinks, and wine. If your qualifications match what they're looking for, management will reach out to schedule a formal interview.
- Regarding beef grading, what proportion is classified as "Prime"?
- Could you list the main components of a "Cosmopolitan" cocktail?
- Can you identify three types of red wine?
